Please note that this is a participatory trip. So be prepared to roll up your sleeves and help out with camp activities like food preparation and washing up. It&#39;s all about giving a hand.

The permanent tents on K&#39;gari (Fraser Island) are twin-share and will already be set up for you. Camping gear (sleeping bag, sleeping mat and pillows) is provided. Campground facilities include flushing toilets and coin-operated showers (at a minimal extra cost to encourage water conservation - please bring $2 coins for this purpose).

This trip can be enjoyed by just about anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Some trips may have individual inclusions that may be of a higher physical rating compared to the overall rating of the trip. Please read the day-to-day itinerary carefully to find out more details on each day&#39;s activities and whether they are suitable for you. Activities can be opted out of if you don&#39;t want to participate.

Due to limited vehicle space and strictly enforced road laws regarding weight limits, your main piece of luggage must be soft-sided and weigh no more than 15kg/33lb. You can also bring a day pack/bag to carry water, a camera, sunscreen, etc, when you&#39;re exploring during the day.

&nbsp;

The Operator is unable to carry large suitcases, particularly hard/externally framed suitcases, as they are difficult to store and can damage equipment and other travellers&#39; belongings.

&nbsp;

Below are some essential items for this trip. Please ensure you pack appropriately for the weather at the time of year you are travelling.

	<li>Lightweight clothing &ndash; you will need to bring a mixture of lightweight clothing and layers. Long shirts and pants are useful to protect against the harsh Australian sun. Clothes should be easy to wash and dry. Remember that this is a camping trip, so the clothes you wear should be comfortable</li>
	<li>Comfortable, closed-in shoes &ndash; These will help to protect your feet from cuts and scratches when walking through bush/grasslands and will act as a protective barrier in the rare case of a bite or sting. A pair of sandals or thongs/flip flops are great for the beach and for around the campsite</li>
	<li>Sun protection &ndash; a&nbsp;wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses</li>
	<li>Swimwear and towel for those wishing to swim</li>
	<li>Refillable water bottle</li>
	<li>$2 coins for the showers while camping</li>
</ul>

Spring and autumn in southeast Queensland and Fraser Island are warm and sunny, with highs of 25C/77F. Winter is dry and mild, with highs of 21C/70F. Summer is the wettest time of year, with spectacular thunderstorms, high humidity and highs of 30C/85F.

Rip currents are the leading hazard for all beach users. They can occur at any beach and can sweep even the strongest swimmer out to sea. Rip currents are responsible for around 15,000 beach rescues each year in Australia. To enjoy Australia&#39;s beaches safely, take the following simple precautions:

	Always swim between the red and yellow flags. These indicate that it is a supervised location where a lifesaving service is currently on duty.
	</li>
	<li>
	Do not swim at unsupervised locations.
	</li>
	<li>
	Observe and obey safety signage, which indicates current and typical hazards for that location.
	</li>
	<li>
	Ask a lifeguard or lifesaver for advice on conditions. They are there to make your experience safer and more enjoyable.
	</li>
	<li>
	Always swim with a friend &ndash; never swim alone.
	</li>
	<li>
	If you get into trouble, stay calm and signal for help by calling and waving your arm above your head.
	</li>
	<li>
	Be aware of your own limitations in terms of your physical health and your swimming ability in the given conditions. Never swim while, or after, consuming alcohol.
	</li>
</ul>

On camping trips, all meals are included. Meals are prepared in the camp kitchen by your leader. As this is a participatory trip, be prepared to roll up your sleeves and help out with camp activities like food preparation and washing up. It&#39;s all about giving a hand.

Vegetarians and vegans can be catered for. However, The Operator does need to know well before the trip&#39;s departure. Please also advise your booking agent should you require gluten and lactose-free options.

The local Butchulla people call Fraser Island K&#39;gari, which means paradise, and you&#39;ll find out why on this three-day tour that showcases the highlights of this World Heritage-protected place.&nbsp;In 2021 Fraser Island was officially renamed K&#39;gari, a move that was celebrated with a ceremony with Elders and representatives of the region&#39;s traditional owners.&nbsp;

K&#39;gari (Fraser Island)&nbsp;is the largest sand island in the world and home to ancient rainforest, sweeping sand dunes and some of the purest water anywhere on earth, just waiting for you to take a refreshing dip. With the expertise of a local leader, a few nights of camping under the stars, and lots of time to relax and soak up Queensland&#39;s famous sunshine, this is a true island adventure.

Day 1: Noosa to Rainbow Beach to K&#39;gari (Fraser Island)

&nbsp;

After pick-ups in Noosa, your first stop is Rainbow Beach&#39;s massive Carlo Sandblow. Take a path through eucalypt stands and rainforests to reach this vast accumulation of windblown sand known as the Cooloola sand mass. As you cross the sand blow, marvel at this ever-changing landscape transformed by the wind. From the top, you&#39;ll enjoy stunning 180-degree views over Rainbow Beach and K&#39;gari (Fraser Island).

&nbsp;

Next, you&#39;ll continue to the ferry transporting you across the water to stunning K&#39;gari (Fraser Island), a crossing which takes just 10-minute. Once you&#39;ve arrived on the world&#39;s largest sand island, drive along 75 Mile Beach &ndash; K&#39;gari&#39;s own &quot;sand highway&quot;, complete with speed limits.

&nbsp;

Now your adventure really begins with a drive to Eli Creek, a beautifully clear creek perfect for a relaxing swim. Then, travelling north, stop at the Maheno Shipwreck for a photo opportunity and a chat about this famous Fraser Island icon. Finally, in the afternoon, travel to your campground for dinner and drinks.

Day 2: K&#39;gari (Fraser Island)

&nbsp;

Today begins with a quick breakfast to fuel your busiest day on K&#39;gari (Fraser Island). Your first stop is the famous Lake McKenzie (Boorangoora), one of the island&#39;s most popular and picturesque highlights. Stop here with time to relax on the white sand beach or swim in the lake&#39;s amazingly clear waters. Lake McKenzie sits above the water table, so it&#39;s comprised entirely of rainwater and is too pure for the plants and fish you&#39;d find in most lakes.

&nbsp;

Head onwards to the ancient rainforest-surrounded Central Station, Wanggoolba Creek and Pile Valley. You&#39;ll walk part of the Pile Valley circuit, a Grade 4 (challenging) taking about 1 hour for the 2km track.

Then, drive back to your campground accommodation and settle in for dinner and perhaps a few drinks with your group.

Day 3: K&#39;gari (Fraser Island) to Sunshine Coast

&nbsp;

After breakfast, you&#39;ll drive to Lake Wabby, a deep green lake at the base of the sweeping crystalline white hills known as the Hammerstone Sandblow. Young Butchulla men were once brought here to train as warriors, running up and down the sand hills until they were considered ready to hunt. Hammerstone is advancing at around a metre a year, so in less than 100 years, Lake Wabby will probably be gone. Yet another reason to visit this special place now!

&nbsp;

The Lake Wabby walk is rated Grade 4 (challenging) due to much of it being on the sand. It is approximately 4km, taking around 2 hours.

&nbsp;

Enjoy lunch before driving down the beach to the barge, which you&#39;ll catch to Rainbow Beach and travel back to Noosa, where your leader will drop you off at around 5:00 pm.
