What to Expect

Embark on this action-packed tour starting from Hobart and drive directly to the stunning Tasman Peninsula. This area has an incredible history, fascinating stories, and spectacular scenery. It's also home to Australia’s highest sea cliffs. The tour enjoys the panoramic views of the area from Pirates Bay Lookout, which provides a great vantage here of the surrounding area.

Passing through Eaglehawk Neck and “The Dogline” the tour guides share fascinating history and stories about the area. Then you'll begin Tasmania’s “Great Short Walks” and follow a spectacular track (about 2km) along the Waterfall Bay cliff top. The walk takes about 45-60 minutes. The track ends at the remarkable rock formations of Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen.

The journey continues to Port Arthur Lavender Farm. You'll get to wander the lavender fields, check out the distillery, and taste lavender inspired sweets and treats in the cafe and gift shops. Next, you'll stop at the Port Arthur Historic Site. The site hosts a wealth of information and history to take in and you'll have 4 hours to explore this stop. Your entry includes a complimentary Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a guided walking tour with one of the Site's expert guides.

You'll learn about the grim and violent history of the early Australian Penal system and get a sense of the isolation experienced by the convicts in this inescapable prison.  You'll have time to walk amongst the main penitentiary and witness the solitary confinement cells and other buildings in this World Heritage open-air museum.

On the return drive to Hobart, the tour makes a stop at Federation Chocolate Factory, a small family-run boutique chocolate stop with a variety of flavours to sample. Continuing along, the tour arrives at the historic Richmond Village to meander the streets, stop for a coffee, visit the Lolly Shop, and walk across Australia’s oldest bridge still in use – a convict-built sand-stone bridge, reported to be haunted! Finally, the tour stops for a fabulous view across Hobart from a local lookout — a picturesque way to return to the city. The tour will drop you off at your Hobart city accommodation at 6.00 pm.
