WHAT TO EXPECT
Sail to the picturesque Upolu Reef on our charming catamaran Reef Daytripper for a relaxing yet fun-filled sailing trip. Avoid the crowds and experience The Great Barrier Reef the way nature intended. No other operator in this category can offer you this superb personalised service, which is normally only available on a privately owned yacht. Join us and our fun-loving crew for an unforgettable trip to the Great Barrier Reef where you'll make new mates along the way.
Our destination Upolu Reef is a beautiful location which lies at the edge of the Outer Barrier Reef and is teeming with a large variety of interesting marine life and a beautiful array of corals. In the relatively sheltered lagoon, you will see a multitude of giant clams, turtles, sea stars and reef fish. This offers a perfect snorkelling or diving experience in warm clear protected waters. A snorkel guide is available at the first site they will give you a fun, informative and interactive introduction to the day's exploration.
You choose freely between snorkelling, diving, or just relaxing on our bownets - look out for dolphins, turtles or even whales (seasonal). Or opt for an introductory suba diving session and see what you can find below the surface!
What's great about our Great Barrier Reef trip is that we are a small group that offers a personalised service.
Being owner-operated means we take an active interest in the safety and well being of our customers. Our crew are considered a part of our family delivering enthusiastic, friendly hospitality to our guests. We will visit two sites (weather permitting), allowing plenty of time to snorkel, scuba dive or just simply relax in the bow nets on the boat.
We start boarding at 7:30 am on the D Finger (through the gate to the end of the finger) and depart the Marlin Marina at around 7:45. We travel at approximately 7-9 knots with both the sails up and the motors running, giving us just over 2 hours of steaming time each way, this is also depending on the wind strength/direction and tides.
We arrive back in Cairns harbour between 16:30-16:45.
Please note that you will need to complete this medical declaration form before the tour starts. So please make yourself familar with this form.
1 Day Sailing Tour: Reef Daytripper
|11:00AM - 12:00PM|
Monday, 29-04-2016 11:00 AM - 12:00PM
How many participants are there?
Minimum unit order: 1 persons.
I have heard about the stinging jellyfish. Can I still go diving?
There are 2 main types of dangerous jellyfish in our local waters. The Box Jellyfish is coastal dwelling and is rarely seen on the reef. They breed in estuaries and live their life on the shoreline away from the reef. The Urikandji Jellyfish is also predominantly a coastal dweller but is occasionally found on the reef. The stinger season in North Queensland is from November to April. Stinger suits are available for hire.
What should I bring on the day out on-board Reef Daytripper?
We suggest you bring the following: • Towel • Hat & Sunglasses • 50+ sunscreen • Travel calm (ginger tablets available on board) • Certification card (certified divers) • Money for any on board purchases • Warm clothing for the end of the day. You are also welcome to bring your own equipment for diving and snorkelling if you prefer, though, equipment hire is price inclusive.
Do I need a medical certificate to try diving for the first time?
We recommend you read the medical questionnaire for resort diving. Should you find that you answer yes to any of the medical questions found on this form you will require a dive medical. We suggest that if this is the case and you answered YES, a medical complying with current Queensland standards should be arranged prior to traveling with us.
Is breakfast provided?
We don’t have a breakfast option, however, coffee and tea are available on arrival. Lunch is included with the tour, and if you have any food allergies or special requirements, we can notify our catering service. You are also welcome to bring along your own snacks if you prefer.
How long is the travel time?
The outward and return journeys are approximately just over 2 hours of travel time. We are motor sail and use no more than 60 litres of fuel per day. This means we have the lowest carbon footprint of any charter boat operating off Cairns, and are the most eco-friendly option. This allows us to conduct all briefings at a relaxed pace and gives you time to mingle and relax before commencing the days activities, and enjoy the scenery with a complementary glass of wine as we sail back to Cairns.
All persons travelling aboard Reef Daytripper to the Great Barrier Reef marine park are subjected to $15.00 levies.
Tour & prices are subject to change without notice.
Some medical conditions may prevent you from diving. Please read the medical questionnaire for Resort Diving. If you find you have any of the medical conditions listed and you answer yes to any question, a dive medical complying with current Queensland standards should be arranged at the earliest convenience.
The company reserves the right to cancel the trip or use another vessel due to poor weather conditions or mechanical problems. Selected reef sites visited may change with no notice.
