Twin Rivers 9km Adventure: HobartA classic Hobart river trip for generations, adventure down the Picton and Huon Rivers and discover Tasmania's pristine heritage
What to Expect
The Twin Rivers 9km Adventure on the Picton and Huon Rivers has been a classic Hobart river trip for generations.
At 10am, meet at the Tahune Adventure Site where you will get dressed into rafting gear and travel up the Picton Valley to the start of the trip.
From the 'Top Bridge', raft down the Picton River and admire features on the way include 'The Gorge', Huon Pine Trees and huge surrounding Eucalyptus Regnans forests. Pause for brief river snacks along the way and later enjoy an optional lunch at the Tahune Cafe.
Suitable for most weather and most water levels, this is a trip for the whole family.
What to know about the river
Your rafting experience changes with the river level and the weather. The beauty of the river is that it's never the same twice! The river can rise quickly after rain in its large catchment so today's level is only a guide for tomorrow's.
Level 0.2 – 0.6
An ideal level for those wanting an active, fun trip with plenty of opportunity to explore under the Huon pines, play in waves and go with the flow. This is a great river level for those wanting to have an enjoyable trip down river that also has the challenge of following your guide around obstacles as you lose yourself in the magic of the river. At this level it is safe for you to be captain of your 2 person raft as your guides help you down the river. At these lower flows expect to be in a small two person raft. With assistance from guides you choose your own path down the river.
Levels above 0.6
At this level, you will probably take the bigger rafts to ensure you get down the river safely. Enjoy easy rapids and a relaxing and serene trip, as the flow of the river carries you through the forest. Or if you want to get wet, you can enjoy splash fights and playing in the current and waves. This is perfect for those that wish to explore and relax while having tales spun by your guide on the natural history of the region and the early pioneers that made this place their home.
Levels above 1.0
Now things are getting fun. Great rapids, lots of excitement.
Levels above 1.5
Plenty of action, big surfing waves. This is going to be a quick trip!
