What to Expect

Imagine yourself camping out under the stars on one of Australia's most beautiful island groups within the stunning Whitsundays. Get that deserted island feeling with one of four amazing locations from which you can explore at your leisure with the ease of vessel transfers from Airlie Beach.

The Molle Island Group is situated within the Molle Islands National Park, including the largest of the islands, South Molle Island, along with the secluded Denman and Planton islands lying just to the east. Boasting lush pockets of rainforest, secluded bays and fringing reefs, your camping paradise awaits, with the flexibility to stay as many nights as you desire. South Molle Island is blanketed in hilly grasslands renowned for its picturesque bushwalking and mountain biking tracks, some stretching to viewpoint peaks and others finishing at small, secluded bays. At low tide, you can walk across to Mid Molle Island.

Vessel transfers are scheduled daily from the Shute Harbour Marine Terminal and due to the large tidal range in the region, times will be tide dependent. Please check the schedule carefully when making your booking. All campsites on the islands are National Park, and you will need to book a camping permit.

Campsite Locations

Paddle Bay

Situated on the Northern Spit of South Molle Island with a coral sand beach, Paddle Bay boasts a beach view from both sides of the campsite with spectacular sunsets from the Western side towards the mainland. Down the Eastern beach, you can access the beautiful walking trails through the island to Mount Jeffery and Spion Kob lookouts. Well shaded, it offers plenty of opportunities to escape other campers and its facilities include a toilet and picnic tables, plus some mobile phone coverage is available (with certain mobile carriers).

Sandy Bay

Situated on the Western side of South Molle Island behind Mt Jeffery and facing towards the Conway Mountain Range, this is a beautiful shady campsite, ideal for groups. From here, you can enjoy direct access to bushwalking trails through the island, great for the keen bushwalker or mountain biker.

Planton Island

If you have ever wanted your own secluded island experience to spend your days, this is your spot. Located just east of South Molle Island, and with only one campsite available, once you book it this island is your little oasis. The camp area is nestled within the dry rainforest, so even if a boat comes past, you still have utter privacy.

Denman Island

This tiny island is another hidden gem where you can book the island for yourself! Located on the Southern side of the Molle Island Group, your own private retreat awaits with only one campsite.

There is usually only 1 departure daily as we need the high tide to access most beaches around the Whitsundays as they have fringing reefs out the front that are exposed on lower tides. Special Charters can be arranged to some locations for larger groups.
