Trek to the serrated spires of Cape Raoul, pass by caves and blowholes on your way to Mt Brown’s summit, chill out on Crescent Beach, and hike to the dramatic dolerite columns of Cape Hauy. Prepare for a matchless encounter with some of Australia’s most awe-inspiring landscapes.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Hobart - Port Arthur

Welcome to Tasmania! Your walking adventure begins in Hobart. Meet your local leader and travel companions at a local cafe for a 9 am welcome meeting and pick up something tasty for lunch. Take a short walk to Art Mob, a fabulous gallery showcasing Aboriginal art from across Australia, then say goodbye to Hobart and make tracks for the historic village of Port Arthur.

Upon arrival, enjoy time to get to know Port Arthur. You may like to visit the Port Arthur Historic Site to learn more about its history as a penal settlement, or perhaps delight your senses at the nearby Lavender farm. Once the sun goes down, you have the option to uncover the village’s spooky past during an after-dark tour.

Walk along a plateau alive with yellow-flecked coastal scrub as glimpses of Mt Brown, Arthurs Peak, Mt Fortescue, and the soaring cliffs of Cape Pillar are revealed to you.

Finally, you’ll come upon the dramatic and jagged spires of Cape Raoul, an unusual and fascinating sight. Pause for a picnic lunch at a scenic spot along the track, then head back along the same path before returning to Port Arthur for an evening at leisure.

Return to Port Arthur and perhaps grab some lunch, then in this afternoon, meet Tasmania’s most famous creatures at an “unzoo”, designed to give animals freedom while allowing people to observe them in their natural habitats. • Tasmania will no doubt give us everything it has to offer. You need to be prepared for hot weather as well as cold/wet (maybe even on the same day). It is unpredictable especially in the alpine regions. Tasmania has four distinct seasons with the warmest months being December to March. The average maximum daily summer temperatures are between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius and winter daily temperatures sit between 3 and 11 degrees Celsius. Even in the peak of Australia summer, Tasmania, being the most southerly point of the country is subect to cold and wet weather from Antarctica. It can get very cold, particularly at higher elevations such as Cradle Mountain. Tasmania sits on a latitude of approximately 40 degrees south , which sometimes means the wind chill from the 'roaring 40's' can make the days very cold! Daily weather conditions in Tasmania can change very quickly from sunshine to rain. We suggest that you come prepared for all extremes, some light clothing for the sunshine and something a little more protective for the colder and possibly wet days. Even though the days may look pretty warm over there, the nights can be quite cool. You may be walking up in the mountains, which can mean that it is much cooler than what is actually forecasted.
  • All group trips are accompanied by one of our group leaders. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. The tour endeavours to provide the services of an experienced leader however, due to the seasonality of travel, rare situations may arise where your leader is new to a particular region or training other group leaders. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense, you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious, and social aspects.
  • Most national governments provide regularly updated foreign travel advice on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your government's advice for their latest travel information before departure and ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all destinations and activities on your trip.
  • As you travel on a group trip you will be exposed to all the pleasures and maybe some of the frustrations of travelling in a group. Your fellow travellers will probably come from all corners of the world and likely a range of age groups too. We ask you to be understanding of the various needs and preferences of your group - patience with your fellow travellers is sometimes required for the benefit of everyone's travel experience. Remember too that you have responsibilities to the group. If you are requested to be at a place at a certain time, ensure that you don't keep the rest of the group waiting. The very best trips are those where the dynamics within the group work well - this takes just a little effort on your part. Due to privacy reasons, we are unable to provide you with contact details and any personal information about your fellow travellers booked on your trip prior to departure.
  • The tour pairs up solo travellers with another traveller of the same gender as per your passport or the information we have in our booking system, so if you identify differently from the gender marker on your passport, please let us know in advance. The tour has a Single Supplement available on most trips for travellers who prefer to have their own room.
  • Travel insurance is compulsory on all our trips for those travelling internationally. We require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. If you are travelling within your home country or region please confirm before travel that you are entitled to access the public medical system easily should an accident occur. We strongly recommend all travellers have a policy that also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage or personal effects.
